Whether its due to inflation,
foreign currency reserve shortages or the daily whims of a local
merchant, prices for various goods and services in Addis can be quite
volatile. That's why we've put together our very own Price Database
for you which will be updated at regular intervals to monitor the
movement of prices on commonly used goods and services throughout the
city. Before you try to argue with a merchant trying to get a price
we're showing in the database though, please be sure to understand just how we collect the data in it.
Prices are updated
quarterly, semi-annually or annually. Please refer to the update
frequency and last surveyed attributes of any particular item to access
this information.
Where applicable (i.e. for
most goods and services), up to 5 data points are used to extract the
average displayed on the main page. If you would like to see the
detail on where the prices were collected from and what each data point
was, click on the detail link for the given item
For each item shown, additional details including the approximate location and type of establishment from where each data point was collected from as well as historical trends where available, will be displayed via the Details link for that item.
Apart from that, please be aware that this is a
best effort data collection and aggregation model that should not
necessarily be taken as a scientifically accurate sampling method.
This content is intended to provide the reader with a reasonable
representation of pricing norms throughout the city and not as an
economically or statistically accurate price index.

Thank you for sharing this info. I only wish that you do this every month, so that it will be easier to track inflation on a month to month basis.
Thank you for the comment. While we would love to increase our update frequency as well, it would unfortunately be prohibitively difficult to do so at the moment. However, we will continue to examine ways in which we can improve this service going forward.
I agree with mimi, I love ACX and this new price database is wonderful. Keep up the good work, we support you if you can in the future do this monthly. But I understand that you cant do it now.

The list above is actually just a subset of everything we track. We will soon add many more goods and services to the list as well as our third quarter update in the next few weeks. Sometime later, we will begin publishing the details of where (general area and type of retailer) we get the prices from as well as the historical trends where available.
