Abstract
This paper bases a research conducted in central Ethiopia in 1997 particularly focusing on children musicians (ca. 10-14 years of age) from Bahər DÄÂÂr, their musical activities and their experience in the traditional music repertoire. Other important aspects discussed here refer to the case of orally transmitted musical traditions along with the process of learning that can only take place through long lasting active participation in music events. This paper thus portrays the musical life of the children musicians, their efforts to compete with adult musicians to offer their music on various events. Alternatively the question, to what extent children can master and arrange the traditional music repertoire, abstract certain systematic aspects or understand similar theoretical features; to what extent they comprehend musical rules that are specifically related with pitch sequences that represent traditional tuning, the Qəñət, have been taken into consideration.
Audio clips of conversations with child musicians and samples of their music.

i think, this issue(Observations of Children Musicians in BahÉ™r DÄÂÂr By Dr. Timkehet Teferra) deserves more consideration. it seems for me untouched topic like many other cultural and traditional components of Ethiopia as well as Africa. My respect to Dr. Timkehet Teferra's performance in this essential cultural issue.
